GlenFiddich's Lameness

Glen is still lame in his right front leg. He might be walking a little better than he was. It has certainly not gotten worse.

No one is getting grain right now. A small amount of hay saver pellets is all I give as bribes to catch the halter training group. I don't believe there is any chance that Glen has foundered.

We have clay soil here. In the spring time, I have seen sheep pick up wet clay soil between their toes. When it hardens it is like a stone and causes limping. This is not Glen's problem. It has been dry enough that we have not had muddy areas for a while. And I did take a good look at his hoof. No mud or pebbles. No cracks in the hoof. No infection or visible wound to the hoof or leg.

Craganmore and the new ewes are still in quarantine. Glen has not yet met my new ram, so if he was fighting with anyone, it would just be the ram lambs who are probably not much of a real threat to his dominance.

In fact, I was going to introduce the big guys to each other this weekend, but I have decided to post pone that at least a week since Glen seems almost defenseless. He cannot attack, and he cannot run away.

I am still thinking that Glen has suffered a sprain from stepping in a gopher hole, or slipping a hoof through a fence, or doing some kind of sheep yoga. I think he is going to be OK. We just have to wait and see right now.

No one seems eager to share room with me in a motel during the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival. That's OK. But is there a convenient and inexpensive motel that you all would recommend?

I camped at the fairgrounds last year, and I was lucky enough to have great weather for camping, but maybe I would prefer a motel this year. WSWF is less than 2 months away now. I need to start making some plans soon. I really look forward to seeing my shepherd friends and meeting more of them.
